Prototype for a Nursing Application

A Visual Presentation

Overview

From the brainstorm where we planned out how we believed the Nurses would use our app, how functional it could be, and what would be necessary to our HMW process where we took information we learned from our interviews and turned them into a more refined idea of an app. We learned enough finally to create our flowchart which lead to the process of creating the app in Adobe XD. Using these exact ideas from our flowchart I put together a piece that is clean, easy to use and see and functional for only the purposes that the Nursing students would need. Removing ideas that I felt cluttered up the process I created the prototype I am presenting.

Registration

Within any app, especially one that is geared towards individual students and accounts I started the app with a sign-in screen where the student has to register for an account using their University email address while also stating which year they are.

Dashboard

The dashboard of the app is developed to be convenient for the Nurses by showing blocks of patients that have been worked on previously as well as saved med cards for future use. The size was determined by the ability to click on the objects without frustration and create a look that is easy on the eyes and uncluttered. On the upper half of the dashboard is all the patient profiles which red dots to show that the profiles are ‌incomplete and green dots to signify that the profiles are ‌complete. Below the Patient profiles is a list of med cards with a like button, bookmark button, and share button (for use with other colleagues.) The navbar on the side which is consistent through the entire app has a button to return to the dashboard, a function to search databases for medical information and a section to view the users account. Below it stand quick links which will take you back to the patient profile you were most recently working on in the categories that are displayed within the patient profile. Below the profile information are similarly quick linked to the users own personal medical library with med cards and saved information from the database.

Patient Screen Incomplete

Simulated are two different patient screens, one which shows an incomplete section which is then filled out.

Patient Screen Complete

The second screen is a complete profile which shows examples of information from the Nurse’s SBAR based clinicals. Included in this screen is the required information for ‌Situation, ‌Background, ‌Assessment, and ‌Recommendation.

Built into the patient profiles in certain fields are ‌information icons which when clicked show a snippet of information about the drug, disease, etc. These bubbles have a ‌read more option below which when clicked will bring you to a full page of information on the subject you are trying to read about. This is helpful as a common complaint from the Nursing students was that it took a large chunk of time to research the information necessary and I felt it more necessary to have the information readily accessible right from the main screen.

Export Function

Nurses, as explained in previous steps, had to format the word documents after the information gathering stage of Clinicals. I want to change this by them using this app and then being able to Export the information in the form of Word, PDF and even to our schools preferred method of turning information in Canvas. I felt this function important because it allows the Nurses easy access to send out their information without it being a core focus.
