Summary

Before, the previous prototype was created with information learned during the Initial Nursing Interview. Now with information gathered from the app testing I have recreated the app to be more successful and be of more help to the Nursing Students of Maryville University.

Changes in Registration

Many of my changes are smaller and could easily go unnoticeable to those who aren’t paying much attention to the initial design compared to the final design.

Updated Registration

The changes are reflected in the space between each input field. Initially each field add small increments of space between them. This made the inputs hard to understand and made the text fields easy to “fat finger” which could result in frustrations in typing information in or logging in.

Changes in Dashboard

As stated in my 6 things learned segment of my testing analysis one issue with my dashboard and general design was the use of screen real-estate. Initially in the first design there sat a large block that would give the registered user a varied “welcome message.” In this case it states “Good Morning, Josh!”

This large block, I found, is more useful in filling screen space when there is a large allotment to give out such as in the registration page and export page. Otherwise, the large block has been shortened to a smaller chunk which only takes up roughly 10% of the page as opposed to its original 25%. Another change, reflected in the above images is the removal of the heart icons in the med cards. As explained to me by Matt, a teacher of game design, hearts usually have associated ideas with them from social media applications and apps that aren’t in the field for educational or professional purposes with the exception of a few business themed apps (ei. LinkedIn). Therefore the hearts were removed and the bookmark icon become the icon of note on the med cards as they fit the them of study material more efficiently. A third change made is a small one to the area where account settings are. The button has been removed from the left side bar and has been moved to the top right of the screen in the form of an icon to fit current design standards better.

Changes in Patient Profile

In order to better reflect that this app is database connected I made a small change to the Patient profile pages which demonstrates that multiple Nursing students have updated an individual patient throughout the months. Originally, only one field for a Nursing student was supplied, now there are several with the option to add additional.

An additional feature added was the increase in size of the green information icons next to important information. This is in order to match the interactive buttons rule by apple which are set in place so that a user does not struggle to click a button which is too small.

An Entirely New Area : MedCard Demonstration

One thing pointed out to me in my testing was that there should be a way to demonstrate a connection between medicines, profiles, and med cards.

I added in a functionality for the user of the app to highlight information and add that information to a new, or existing med card, demonstrated above as the information is highlighted with a med card created above it.
