How Might We , Part of the Sprint Process

Examples and sketches of how the Maryville Nursing app will work.
We are now on the third step of the Maryville Nursing Program App Brainstorm. This process involves taking a look into “How Might We” choices which are ideas which we find questions and answers to in order to explain how a certain process of the app will work. Using each How Might We Choice we researched a few designs from other applications and then made a quick sketch to show how our idea will work.
How Might We : Choices
- How might we reduce the time filling in the paperwork
- How might we include a messaging feature
- How might we export the paperwork for easy upload
Application Examples

Story Planner
Story Planner is an application which is meant for Novel and Screenwriting planning. Packed into this simple application is forms which simplify the creation process of characters, locations, scenes, and plot-lines. This information is easily filled into forms which is then easily exportable into a PDF that highlights significant data. This idea in combination with a Nursing app would create a cohesive space for Nursing Students to remove the need for formatting their word document and instead, typing directly into forms.

myHomework
Similarly to Story Planner, myHomework is an app created to be a digital planner for homework assignments. What myHomework does differently however is that you have Classes you assign to times and days. When you start a new form, the date and time for your next class will autofill into the correct boxes which eliminates the need to fill out sections of the forms. This idea would work well with the Nursing app as relevant information can be autofilled by given perimeters earlier in the filling out process.

Behance Project by Raja Sekaran
This Behance Design seems the best fit for how a Nursing form would look. As simple as we would like to create this app, there is a lot of information which is necessary to fill out and therefore the categorization and multiple options in this Behance Design is the best representation of how this app should look.

How Might We: Reduce the time filling in the paperwork
The Nurse app should bit split into categories much like the Behance reference above, which can enable or disabled (closed or opened). This allows for the interface to remain uncluttered like it is in myHomework and Story Planner. Then within each category we have a grouping of forms that are relevant to the category name. Form types within these categories may vary between Form fills, Radio buttons, drop downs, etc. From these choices, similarly to myHomework, other forms will autofill such as Date of Birth translating into the age of the patient.

Application Examples

Slack
Slacks messaging feature and built in functionality for work groups is a prime example of what Nurses would need built into their app. Communication in most cases is the key to solving issues. With Slacks built in forms of document uploading, sharing, and individual chat windows it makes a perfect candidate for what a nursing apps messaging feature should be.

Discord
A simplified version of Slack, Discord is built on the same premise but with built in voice connectivity. This is just a bare bones example of how an application for messaging can work if the nurses are not sharing crucial files with each other and are instead solely using it for communication.

How Might We: Include a messaging feature
Messaging within the Nurses app may not be the biggest hurdle or most important part of the app. It is still a convenience that will make the job a little more simple for the Nurses. Using Discord simplistic style and Slacks ability to upload important, secure documents, this app should be able to send individual messages and group chats between classmates and other Nurses with the possibility of Professional Nurses in the mix.

Application Examples

iA Writer
This application is a writing utility meant for useful export features, markdown typing, and overall unique features which make it easy and relaxing to write in. Export features include: Markdown, HTML, PDF, Microsoft Word, Project Archive, Share to Wordpress (Jetpack) and Share to Medium. This idea builds off our idea that the Nursing application should be able to export to certain areas such as Drug Cards being exported for studying or clinical’s being exported for turning in.

Adobe Illustrator
Another example is Illustrator due to its many options for exporting such as using a single Artboard or all Artboards. The ability to choose what is exported is necessary for certain components of the Nurses paperwork.

How Might We: Export the paperwork for easy upload
An export function is the last feature of the app which will be used by Nurses to print out things such as Drug Cards, Clinical documents, and more. Most of this material will be used by the Nurses to be turned in or studied and therefore a good export option is important. The idea which pulls from both Illustrators and iA writers method would let Nurses choose what data to export and in what format.
