The purpose of this is to describe ideas of projects that I will pursue for my upcoming Citizens Science Project which is to create a mock-up of a website that can either be a redesign or an original idea.
Title | Original or Already Exists? | Main Objective | Who is the main audience? | Is it a website, iPad app, iPhone app? | Will it include gamification? |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Anti-Slavery Manuscripts | Already Exists | Turn this transcribing citizens science project into a mobile app which allows for on the go and more convenient transcribing. | Members who are active on Anti-Slavery Manuscripts as well as new users who will be able to see it in the App Store who are interested in civil rights and political activism. | iPad App | Yes, my version of the website and app will include a form of gamification where it can track the amount of lines completed as well as documents created. |
Letters of the World | Original | The idea of this Citizens Science project would be too transcribe, much like the Anti-Slavery Documents, old letters of the past and bring them to modern day tech where they can be seen by the millions who explore the internet. The user base will transcribe letters in the same fashion as they do in the Anti-Slavery Documents Project. | People who are interested in reading, history, or those who simply interesting in learning about people of the past while transcribing the content in their letters. | iPhone App | Similarly to the Anti-Slavery Documents, this app will display the amount of sentences and documents completed and even let you see a list of the documents you’ve completed so that you may go back and read them. |
Dirty Coder | Original | A more difficult idea for the average volunteer, this project will allow programmers and those who can read coding to go through small sections of code in their selected language (Javascript, C#, C++, Swift, etc.) and then process the code on the page and check to see if there are any redundant lines, see if lines can be simplified or are just broken in general. They then write in the new code and submit and move on to the next. | Programmers and people interested in learning how to program. | Website | This website will include a scoring system for coding systems fixed with a history that the user can go back to. |
